United by a Common Goal

When trying to come up with a simple and concise mission statement, Gail and I decided not to re-invent the wheel, but rather to look at some local organizations and see what exactly they hoped to accomplish for their residents. A few prime examples we looked at included: National Association of Local Boards of Health (NALBOH), National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO), New Jersey Environmental Health Association (NJEHA), and United Water.

NALBOH: ” [NALBOH’s] mission is to strengthen and improve public health governance.”

NACCHO: “The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) is the national organization representing local health departments. NACCHO supports efforts that protect and improve the health of all people and all communities by promoting national policy, developing resources and programs, seeking health equity, and supporting effective local public health practice and systems.”

NJEHA: “Working to protect the health and environment of New Jersey and its public through enforcement, education and legislation.”

United Water: “Water is our life. We provide comprehensive, sustainable water and wastewater management solutions that promote public, economic, and environmental health.”

After reading through these mission statements, we came to the conclusion that national health association members and community members alike strive for the same common goal: to enhance and protect the public, economic, and environmental health of their community. There are so many ways in which this task can be accomplished, beginning with our water.
